Enter the other Sweet Sensations

I was looking at the previous blog and realised l hadn’t mention what happened to Nadine and l on our journey home last week. Nadine did the show on a week day and that in a sense was like a baptism of fire. After the show, which was in Norwich and took us just over three hours to get there, the journey back took us four hours due to all the roadworks and road closure dispite though the satnav indicating it would take a mere two and a half hours to get home. It was not the best, but we stayed positive and kept on, although l should say Nadine did as she did all the driving and was due in to work the next day. I wasn’t able to share the driving due to the fact that the car was a hire car and she felt better doing the driving herself. I felt bad, but l had to close my eyes a few times, but l was mainly awake. She was a real trooper. We eventually got home between three and four am. All l could do was pray that she would stay awake all day, and she did….she struggled a little but she made it through the day.

Back to the shows. Soooo Gen joined us in our Lichfield shows, we did two at the Garrick Theatre. Great again! I am really looking forward to when l can duet with the ladies on the song the Sweet Sensations sang. We do this whilst Elvis is getting changed. Sweet Inspirations by the Sweet Sensations. The Sweet Sensations were backing vocalists Elvis used. In the show, we are representing them. Rob also mentioned that there might be a show where all three of us will do…that will be great. It’s funny at the rehearsal we had at my home, we were saying how it would be nice if we were all doing the shows. As much as l love singing with Mick and Dave. It is really great having another female bv.

It was so lovely to have my friends come out to support us. Carol, Prent and Sel on Saturday and my sister in law who came out on the Friday with her mom. I assumed she would be there on the Saturday and so was surprised when she came down to the front. I am glad she did as l would not have known she was there, only if she would have messaged me after to say how much she enjoyed the show, which is what she did. I wasn’t able to get a picture with them as l wasn’t sure if hey had left, but was so glad when she sent me the picture she had taken with Elvis. I was able to get a couple with my friends and so was able to put Elaine and her moms picture with Elvis along with the pictures with my friends on my Facebook post. Just to show that they were there.

Well l have to say that l am really enjoying my job as a Sweet Sensation with the AVOE (A Vision of Elvis) band. The shows are just so amazing and the audiences have been fantastic!..such great people and loyal not only to Elvis’ memory, but to Rob who is an amazing tribute to Elvis….so convincing too. I cannot believe l have done 11 shows already…11 shows….it’s great.

l had a good rest over the month of December. The last couple of years l have taken private gigs of my own and seen the new Year in as the vocalist for the night, doing the countdown for the audience as well as singing auld Lang syne with them. But this New Years Eve l was quite happy to have a quiet evening. In fact l had a quiet month as l only did the Lakeside show with Elvis and that was it. I guess it is because l know that this is going to be quite a busy year. As the year kicked in, l was ready to get stuck in.

Marie is sorting dresses out for the show. I mentioned in the last blog that there are a few changes that are going to take place in this new year. We got the black dresses, l am inclined to think that these maybe temporary. She had ordered silver dresses, Gens came on the night we did the show with Nadine even though Get wasn’t there, l took hers home and so Nadine and l did both sets in the black dresses. Then on the night we did the shows with Gen, the other dresses came. Gen and l tried them on and it was quite funny, we just laughed at ourselves. Gens was not only too short as she is way taller than l am, it just was not flattering for either of us. It didn’t help that we both had our black tights and boots on underneath. Haha! what a combination. We showed Marie and she was happy to send them back, which was lovely really. They are such a joy to work with and want us to be happy and comfortable. She is going to look at some others for us. I think she may try to get a dress like the red one l wear. I love that dress….it’s so easy to wear, even though l did have to make an alteration to the darts in the back. So we will wait and see what she gets. I would love to be able to wear the red dress again.

There is a really high note l have to hit in ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’ and I have been trying to work out how to sing the notes effectively without wrecking my voice. I need it to last for the duration of this tour and beyond. I have hit it in the beginning quite successfully, but not correctly and so now l think l have built up a mental block and think l won’t hit it when l approach it and so now l work around it. The thing is l do sing higher notes in the show than that particular note. Funny how we can build strongholds in our heads and tell ourselves all sort of things that really are not true. I know it is in my vocal range, so l will keep working on my approach to the note and then maybe l will put that note back in. Until then, l shall use my alternative note. Gen who is a vocal coach gave me some great pointers. I really want to teach vocals again, but there are a few things l need to sort out first before l do that including getting over that mental block.

I have finally worked out a way to get the footage off my phone into my computer…l will check tomorrow. l really really hope it is uploaded, it is uploading as l type. l must say it is taking really long. If it still says it is still uploading in the morning, l think it will be safe to say that it has not worked. Once uploaded l will be able to start editing the footage and get my Youtube channel up and running again…so excited. Then that will be another thing l can check off my list. Yippeeeee!
